Barnes & Noble NOOKcolor e-book reader with color touchscreen Posted: 29 Oct 2010 09:59 AM PDT Barnes & Noble (B&N) introduces the new NOOKcolor e-book reader with a full color touchscreen display for delivering digital books, magazines, newspapers and children’s books in “immersive, gorgeous” color. The reader comes with a 7-inch VividView color 1024 x 600 IPS touchscreen display with ability to display over 16 million colors and an extra wide viewing angle.
The NOOKcolor comes with built-in WiFi wireless connectivity allowing users to get books, magazines and newspaper online as well as check email and surf the web. It has 8GB built-in memory that is enough for up to 6,000 e-books and supports microSD/SDHC card up to 32GB. This new NOOK reader supports ePUB, PDF, XLS, DOC, PPT, PPS, TXT, DOCM, XLSM, PPTM, PPSX, PPSM, DOCX, XLX, PPTX document files as well as JPG, GIF, PNG, BMP images. It can also handle playback of MP3, AAC audio and MP4 video, and is pre-loaded with Pandora internet radio NOOK app, Chess and Sudoku games and Crossword puzzles. You can find built-in mono speaker and 3.5mm headphone jack. B&N’s NOOKcolor is portable and lightweight, measuring 8.1(H) x 5(W) x 0.48-inches (D) at 15.8 ounces. OCZ RevoDrive X2 PCI-Express SSDs Posted: 29 Oct 2010 09:05 AM PDT OCZ Technology announced the new RevoDrive X2 PCI-Express SSD, a follow-up to the first RevoDrive. The new X2 offers increased performance and capacity to serve high-performance computing consumers. It upgrades the riginal architecture to deliver unprecedented speed up to 740MB/s and up to 120,000 IOPS, which, according to OCZ, is nearly triple the throughput of other high-end SATA-based solutions with a substantial reduction in the total cost of ownership (TCO) to the consumer.
Utilizing PCI-Express x4 interface, the RevoDrive line eliminate the SATA II 3Gbps bottleneck. The RevoDrive X2 uses an onboard RAID 0 design and is equipped with four SandForce-1200 controllers, compare to two in the original RevoDrive, for maximum data access and bandwidth. The new X2 is available in 100GB to 960GB capacities. The 100-160GB models offer 740MB/s read speed, 690MB/s write speed and up to 550MB/s sustained write speed while the 240GB-960GB models have 740MB/s read, 720MB/s write and 600MB/s sustained write speeds. Nikon NF-300i 3D Digital Photo Frame Posted: 29 Oct 2010 06:56 AM PDT Nikon launches its NF-300i 3D digital photo frame for its new “my Picturetown 3D” service that converts 2D images to 3D. The service is for users to store and share digital images and convert 2D images to 3D, which can then be streamed to the NF-300i 3D digital frame. The Nikon NF-300i has a 7.2-inch LCD display with lenticular lenses for 3D display. It can show 2D and 3D images in 800×600 resolution. With built-in Ethernet LAN and WiFi 802.11b/g connectivity, the frame can download 2D/3D images from the my Picturetown 3D service. The frame runs Android 2.1. The Gucci 3D Glasses feature “optically correct 6-base curved lenses with circular polarized technology,” optimal for Real D and a “a high tech multi-layered mirrored coating which allows the wearer to view themselves in a mirror without distortion”. The coating also allows over 98 percent of visible light through, therefore not affecting viewing in a cinema environment. There is als an anti-reflective coating on the back of the lens.
