A concept phone that uses an E Ink / OLED double display...

Posted: 17 Nov 2010 11:57 PM PST

There's a new concept mobile phone called 'second-life' that uses a 'double-display' which is an OLED display on top of an E Ink display, and both are transparent. You can switch between the displays: so when power is low, you can use the E Ink to conserve battery. A nice touch is that if you're using the E Ink display, the degree of transparency of the display shows how much battery is remaining. The more transparent the display, the less battery remaining.

Mitsubishi ML501P73 Red Laser Diode for Pico Projectors

Posted: 11 Nov 2010 07:19 PM PST

Mitsubishi ML501P73 Red Laser Diode for Pico Projectors

Mitsubishi launches a 638-nanometer (nm) wavelength red laser diode (LD), the ML501P73, with an output power of 1W, the world’s highest among 638 nm band LDs. The ML501P73 diode is ideal for pico projectors and other portable display systems that require a high-brightness red light source.

Features:

Highest recorded output power of 1 W at 638 nm for micro projectors

  • The product offers a pulsed output power of 1W, currently the world’s highest in 638 nm band
  • Luminosity as a red light source exceeds 120 lumens (lm) due to lasing at short wavelength
  • The product has an industry-leading electrical conversion ratio of 35% at 1W at a temperature of 25 degrees C, enabling the reduction in power consumption

Operational at temperatures between -5 degrees C and + 40 degrees C

  • The product can emit 1W in pulsed output and 0.5W in continuous waves within an operating range of -5 degrees C to + 40 degrees C. In the pulse condition, the duty ratio is less than 33% and the frequency is higher than 50Hz.

Sprint ZTE PEEL Case Brings 3G to iPod touch

Remember Yision’s Apple 520 that brings phone function to iPod touch? Here in the US, Sprint has just announced the ZTE PEEL case that brings Sprint’s 3G to iPod touch, which has been leaked three months before. Basically, the ZTE PEEL is a mobile WiFi hotspot attached to iPod touch.

The PEEL connects to Sprint’s 3G network and share the connection via WiFi to up to two devices, allowing iPod touch users to stay connected. Unlike the Apple Peel from Yision, ZTE’s offering doesn’t make phone calls and text messages. The PEEL works with iPod touch 2G and 3G.

Sprint offers the ZTE PEEL at $79.99 and a $29.99 monthly service plan that allows up to 1GB of 3G data on the Sprint network.
