Finally, Apple officially announced the new iPad that packs a new powerful CPU, a new ultra high resolution display and support for 4G mobile network. While keeping the screen size at 9.7-inch, the new iPad gets a Retina Display with 2048×1536 ultra high resolution IPS multitouch touchscreen with 264ppi pixel density. It is powered by a dual-core Apple A5X SoC with quad-core graphics for enhance processing power and speed. The device will be loaded with the latest iOS 5.1.
The new iPad features a 5 Megapixel iSight camera with auto focus, IR filter, video stabilization, face detection and geotagging. The camera can record Full HD 1080p video at 30fps. The third generation iPad comes in WiFi-only model and WiFi+4G model. The latter supports LTE 700/2100MHz 4G network as well as quad-band UTMS 3G, HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA and quad-band GSM/EDGE networks. There is also a world-ready/Verizon model that adds support for CDMA EVDO Rev.A 3G network. The tablet also sports Bluetooth 4.0 with Bluetooth Smart, digital compass, Accelerometer, gyroscope. The WiFi+4G model includes also GPS/AGPS as well.
Apple’s new iPad is capable of Full HD recording and Full HD video playback and is able to streaming Full HD video to the new Apple TV 3 gen using AirPlay, and 720p AirPlay Mirroring. It comes with a built-in 42.5-watt-hour rechargeable lithium-polymer battery that provides up to 10 hours of web surfing on WiFi. Apple will ship the new iPad on 16 March in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Switzerland, UK and the US Virgin Islands, and is now accepting pre-orders. The new iPad comes in black and white.
At the same time, Apple has lowered the price of 16GB iPad 2 for $399 for WiFi-only model, and $529 for WiFi+3G model.
